As we all know Nvidia's 8800GTX's are decimating the opposition in no man's land right now. To top that their coming out with a dual gpu card!
The
8950GX2 just like Nvidia's last GX2 cards the 7900GX2 and 7950GX2 has two gpu's on board as if you have the power of two video cards in sli but in one slot! hopefully like the 7950GX2 it will be able to go into sli mode making a total of 4 gpu's processing at once with 96 stream processors running on each core making a total of 192!!!
The 8950GX2 uses the G80 graphics processing unit based on the 80nanometer cores! (90nm is the current daddy) These cores run at 550 MHz while the memory is 2000 MHz DDR4 ram! Both chips have 512mb of ram to pay with making a massive 1gig of ram just on your graphics card!!!
The older 8800GTX which is current king of the hill has a 575mhx clock with 762mb of DDR3 ram running at 1800mhz. now you may think that’s quite powerful well bare in mind that the GX2 above is not over clocked the 8800GTX has been proven to over clock to 575mhz, well if the 8950GX2 isn't blowing you away not over clocked, then look at the new
8900GTX...
Huh you say well this beastie has a 700 MHz Gpu and runs 768mb’s of GDDR4 ram running at 2200 MHz! she also packs a massive 128 stream processors however for both of these new cards expect to ay through the nose with them costing around £300 to £350 each.
The good news is that this has confirmed that the awesome 8800GTX is due to drop to around £200 to £225!
I don’t think I’ll be waiting for Nvidia to drop these on our lap; its clear Nvidia isn’t waiting for Ati to catch up and has definitely moved on. I will be waiting patiently for the price of the 8800GTX to drop, maybe even wait for the inevitable 8950GTX to come out and drop the 88’s price further!
Watch this space people my spy in the underground is due to deposit a dead drop any minute for more news!
